Dear, Dear

Agnė Matulevičiūtė and Marta Finkelštein found a partnership in the creative process, in which their different professional profiles and experiences meaningfully complement each other, revealing different possibilities of contemporary sound.

Dear, Dear is a program that combines the sounds of piano and analog/modular synthesizers creating synthesis between acoustic and electronic music. In this program they pay tribute to their musical inspirations [John Cage, Meredith Monk, Nils Frahm, Hania Rani, Maurice Ravel, Angelo Badalamenti, Suzanne Ciani, Ryuichi Sakomoto, Chilly Gonzales, Nicolas Jaar, Marta Argerich]. The program becomes a map of their experiences and inspirations, in which well-known, beloved works that shape their musical identity, finds new forms and expressions.

PROGRAM NOTES:

An excerpt from the conversation between Agnė and Marta:

M: Maybe let’s think in the direction we’ve talked about – our new program as a map of our experiences and inspirations. I was thinking about using the pieces I’ve played or listened to a hundred times as the basis for recomposition. It’s peculiar to see just how some of my professional interests have become my collections of experiences and pieces that I constantly return to, the collection that makes me a musician.

A: Good morning, dear friend. I woke up today with that idea in my head – what if we make our new program a homage or dedication to our inspirations and mentors? The titles of our pieces, then, could be Agnès for Ryuichi, Marta for Gerard, Agnès for John, and so on. And we would conclude with Marta for Agnès and Agnès for Marta.
