Sonic Fiction

Six members of Synaesthesis ensemble explores the field of contemporary music performance, which is expanded by removing their usual tools on stage – their instruments. Than the focus is shifted towards alternative means of performativity and bodily expression. Four premieres of musical works have been written by composers specifically for this audiovisual performance. This recorded music is exploring the concept of silence and performance itself through an experimental process is taking on a unique stage format. For the first time in their life’s ensemble performers are on stage without their instruments

Music works:

Arturas Bumšteinas - Tell me you. One evening, this song “Tell Me You" came to me spontaneously with all the words and melody. It happened after I listened to a phonogram improvised by the ensemble.

Rita Mačiliūnaitė - Silence, please!. Yes, "silence, please" plays with the proportions of time and space in a slightly claustrophobic way through the grotesque relationship between light and darkness, opening and closing the auditory channels through the fields of vision. It is quite possible that the work asks us to listen not to the music, but to its performers.

Gintaras Sodeika - Punk after Kant. "...composing is one thing, performing is other, and listening is also another. What can they possibly have in common?" / John Cage

Agnė Matulevičiūtė - If you agree, please wait. Have you ever called the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sodra, some airlines or Post Office, desperate for an answer and a human contact, but... a robot voice directed you to a space filled with short, repetitive waiting elevator music, where time stops and the answer, most often, never comes? In this work concept of waiting becomes synonym to silence and my collection of waiting-call recordings becomes a new music piece for an ensemble. Performance itself is exploring the various states of waiting and the feelings that rise in that moment.
